Friday Afternoon!

We bought honey and a Grenada "collar" for Woofie.

The buses are large vans and they just stop where ever… and pack people in!  Costs about $1US to ride.  The drivers communicate by honking their horns, and the largest vehicles have the right of way.  They drive on the left side of the road and seem to stop and pass and maneuver however they want!  It is almost as good as an “E-Ticket” ride at Disneyland (remember those?!?!?!  If so, you are dating yourself!!).  If you ever saw the Harry Potter movies and remember the “Night Bus” and how it could maneuver through traffic, that is what the bus rides feel like!

Many booths sold spices.  Grenada is one of the Spice Islands.

The buses stop at the bus station in downtown Grenada and everybody gets off and heads in their desired direction.  We were immediately pegged as tourists and a “guide” showed up to take us where ever we wanted to go!  Our first stop was the open air market for spices (since we were on one of the Spice Islands) and other goodies to take home.  We managed to spend a few EC$’s there!!  We bought local spices, honeys, wines and… can’t remember everything!  It was fun!

We bought spices from Rosemary.  Her son, Michael, was our guide.

We finally had to head back for our group dinner at Rita’s house.  We could have hired a cab (expensive) or take the bus back to our hotel and a short cab ride from there.  The buses must have a “basic” route, but they change it on a whim.  When they seemed to pass our area, I asked about how we get back to where we wanted to be.  He asked where our final destination was… and for a moderate price (more than a typical bus ride but way less than a cab) they took us all the way to Rita’s house!  She live out on a narrow dirt (and very pot holed) road on the hillside and they dropped us off at the bottom of her driveway!!!  You have to experience it to totally understand it!  What a hoot!

We had a wonderful dinner (Thanks Rita!!) and final visit with the WV team and several folks from the GSPCA.  We all had a great time.  Then had to say good bye to all our new friends.
Back to our casita to packup.  Leaving early in the am for our flights home.
Another wonderful and successful World Vets trip is completed.  Until next time….
